You have the right to see your Health First Colorado health claims data. With a copy of your health claims data you can make more informed decisions about your health. For example, you could:
- Share them with your doctor or trusted family members or caregivers
- Check to make sure the information, such as your medication list, is accurate and complete
- Keep track of when your child had his/her last vaccination
- Have your medical history available in case of emergency, when traveling, seeking a second opinion, or switching health insurance companies
You can choose how you want to get this information: through a mobile app or by mail.

What is health claims data?
Health claims data is information your health care provider sends to Health First Colorado to get paid for services. It is like what you might see on an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
Your health claims data may include:
- Your information: name, age, gender, address, and phone number
- Your health coverage details: member ID, plan name, other insurance, policy numbers, and prior approval information
- Health care services: diagnosis and procedure codes that describe your condition and the care you received
- Dates and locations of care: when and where services were provided
- Provider information: provider names, ID numbers, and charges
Your claims data may include sensitive health information, such as:
- Mental or behavioral health care
- Pregnancy or reproductive health information
- Substance use treatment
- HIV or sexually transmitted infections
- Genetic testing
- Domestic or physical abuse
Ways to get your health claims data
Option 1: Use a mobile app
Federal rules require Health First Colorado to let members access their health claims data using a mobile or web app of their choice.
The mobile and web apps listed below meet the minimum requirements set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
You are not required to use a mobile app!
Important things to know about mobile apps:
- Health First Colorado does not own, manage or monitor these apps.
- Before you use an app to download your health claims data, read the app’s privacy notice and terms and conditions.
- Make sure you understand:
- How your data is protected
- What happens if there is a data breach
- Whether your data is still protected by laws like HIPAA
After you share your data with a mobile app, it may no longer be protected by federal and state health privacy laws.
Option 2: Get your health claims data by mail
If you do not want to use a mobile app, you can request your health claims data by mail.
To do this:
- Complete the Access to Protected Health Information form
- Submit the form as instructed
- We will mail your health claims report to you

Your privacy is important to Health First Colorado.
- While your data is with Health First Colorado, it is protected by federal and state privacy laws.
- After you let a mobile app to access your health claims data, those laws (including HIPAA) may no longer apply.
- Mobile apps are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

- Review the app’s privacy notice
- Ask how your data is used and shared
- Ask about security protections and breach response
